I have had every test needed to clear me for my mitral valve repair on Tuesday, March 19. My six year old was home sick yesterday and today with strep throat. I went to my PCP today due to headache and sore throat. I cultured positive for strep. My surgery was cancelled. Better safe than endocarditis! I will reschedule after ten days of antibiotic therapy and a negative strep culture. Just when you think you are in the home stretch....

I will be having my mitral valve repaired March 19 at Mt. Sinai by Dr. Anyanwu and Dr. Adams. A tricuspid ring, as well, if needed. It will be here before I know it. I cannot wait to run again! I will be able to Zumba and run and hike mountains and not feel like I am wearing a sumo wrestler\'s suit filled with sand! I will be able to do things all day long and not fall asleep 30 seconds after sitting down on the couch. I will be able to take the stairs again and talk at the same time! My only health issue, this mitral valve, will be healed. Thank You, God, for the knowledge and skill that You bless this team with.

I had my consultation visit with Dr. Anyanwu at Mt. Sinai hospital February 20. What a fantastic group of people they have there in NY. I cannot say enough nice things about Dr. Anyanwu and his staff. They are so very courteous and respectful. Dr. Any was not rushed in his visit with me at all. He took the time to review my TEE and answer my questions. He also had Dr. Adams join us for his professional opinion on my echo and treatment plan. My husband and I are CRNAs in Knoxville, TN and we had a ton of questions. My largest concern was in regards to duration of repair and risks of a future redo. I have a complicated valve due to Barlow\'s disease and some mild tricuspid insufficiency. Dr. Adams and Dr. Any were very reassuring in their answers and were able to provide literature to support their techniques. We left NY with confidence in the care that I will receive with this team. Dr. Anyanwu and Dr. Adams will repair my valve together in the next month or so. Picking the date and scheduling it with two surgeons is the hard part. Luckily, I am not sick. I am symptomatic, but my left ventricle is not enlarged. i have not experienced any afib. Life is good. I have a daughter going to her first formal and she will be performing at Carnegie Hall in April with her high school ensemble. Then I have a six year old graduating kindergarten. Life goes on despite illness.
