I am 28 Y old and had my Open Heart Surgery on 7th march,2016. I had AVR and replacement of aorta as well. I recovered very fast, but sometime I feel little dizziness or you can call it blackout just for a sec or 2. It comes at anytime, sometime when I am sitting at home or in office. So, far I did not have any dizziness when I am doing workouts, And that is why I am unable to correlate that why this is happening. Anyone having a similar symptoms and knows why it happens?

Peggy Whitecotton Yes, it happen to me. I didn't notice it so much until the 3rd month after my AVR and I would get a little dizzy. Like you, it never happen during workout. Then gradually it subsided, then 2 months later I was out shopping I got so dizzy I had to grab hold of the counter to keep from falling. It only lasted a few seconds. That really scared me so I called my surgeon's office, they felt it was the beta blocker dropping my blood pressure.

I had similar issues (and still have periodic issues). AVR was 12/1. I went about 2 months solid taking 12 hour claritin D and since I stopped it (about 6 weeks ago), I have only had one episode. I was told by my cardiologist to find another decongestant as the D in claritin was likely causing my symptoms. Mine usually happen when I am sitting and not active. Best wishes and I hope you find out what is happening.

Peggy Whitecotton My surgeon and cardiologlist both feel it's the meds causing my blood pressure to drop. Also my surgeon felt I was not drinking enough water and dehydration can cause dizziness and even shortness of breath....also you are still recovering. I was told by my cardiologlist it can take 6 months or longer to heal from the surgery itself but the heart takes longer, up to 9 months to a year for it to recover and return to normal size (may be longe).. The heart goes through a remodeling stage and has to adjust to your new valve.. Be very careful of any over counter meds which could effect your heart or the cardiac meds you are on..... At this time we are watching my blood pressure and I am trying to drink my water (6-8) and I'm doing better. Hoping he will take me off the beta blocker on my next visit if my echo is good...

Aakash Verma Thanks Peggy and Laura for sharing your experiences with me. Even I have my echo pending which is due on july 11. If all goes well, they will stop all the medicines other than the blood thinner which anyway I have to take life long :)
