About Me (In My Own Words)
I am 40 years old and originally diagnosed with aortic regurgitation back in 2006 after hearing a murmur. I was to see my cardiologist every two years for repeat echos. In 2008 my echo showed mild aortic stenosis and he was fine with continuing on the same schedule. In 2010 he said my valve was a little worse and now he wanted to start seeing me annually and also that surgery would be in my future but not for 30+ years. For my appointment in 2011 my valve had worsened yet again which he was now categorizing me in moderate stenosis with moderate regurgitation and with the rate that it had advanced he was thinking surgery would be probably within the next five years. He was very surprised at how quickly it advanced. I do not have a bicuspid valve but he thinks the trigger to all of this was that I was treated with radiation therapy to my neck and chest for Hodgkins Disease when I was 17. We are in monitor mode for now but because of how quickly things have changed he has moved my appointments up to every six months.
