About Me (In My Own Words)
I had my mitral valve replaced after having Rheumatic Fever as a child. I am 55 years old. My leaflets and chords were much more calcified than originally thought. It became a very complicated surgery. Dr. Skipper did an outstanding job. However I went into cardiogenic shock and respiratory failure. After 4 days of sedation and life support, I was brought out of the sedation and began my recovery. I was in ICU 5 days and 3 days in a step down unit. I am now 4 months post op and I feel really good! Thank you to Dr. Skipper and all the folks at Sanger! You saved my life!
