About Me (In My Own Words)
When I was 14 I had Rheumatic Fever and developed a heart murmur. I severed in the Army and lead a normal life. I had a murmur, but doctors were not concerned with it for many years. I was about 50 years old when my doctor ordered an Echo and told me the murmur was getting worst. The murmur will need to be monitored with an annual Echo. Medication was also prescribed. My Doctor also told me that in the future I may need an operation. When I was 65 my Doctor informed my the murmur was getting worst and referred me to a Cardiologist. After he examined me, I was told that I would need open heart surgery to replace my Aortic Valve, but since I was not experiencing symptoms it would be in the future. I went over 2 years being checked stress test and Echos.
Then one day I collapsed and lost consciousness, my wife had to preform CPR on me. I was taken to the hospital and my Cardiologist looked at my heart with a Cardiac Catheter. He determined it was time for my valve to be replaced along with a double bypass. The operation was preformed the next day and was successful. I went to Cardiac Rehab and returned to normal. So far I have been living a normal life.
