About Me (In My Own Words)
Hello to everyone out there. I am a Fire captain and was diagnosed with Mitral Valve regurgitaiton as well as having 3 coronary blockages. I'm 50 yrs. old. I was diagnosed on Sept. 21, 2012 while at work. I had laid down to go to bed, but then I started to get a strange "thumping" in my chest. There was no pain or dizziness associated, but I knew some thing was wrong. So I got up and took the Stethoscope off the Fire Engine and listened to my heart. I heard a strange "clicking" with each beat. I then awoke the other guys of my crew and next thing I knew I was at the hospital getting all kinds of tests. A lot of guys I work with are completely shocked. I am in good shape and exercise strenuously 5 days a week. I eat with a fairly good diet and make fun of the other guys when they eat faty or fried foods( a New Orleans staple) and now I'm the one with the bad heart. As my surgeon told me " you can't choose your parents"!!!
