About Me (In My Own Words)
I became aware of a heart murmur during a routine physical at age 40, and we have been watching ever since. I am now 65 and my cardiologist says "its time!".
I am having my procedure done as a traditional open heart operation with a St Jude Trifecta valve. I am ready to put this all behind me and begin my post- surgery life. Happy New Year everyone! Ted.
P.S. Well its been four weeks since my surgery and I've now had my second follow-up appointment with my surgeon, who is pleased with my progress (he says I'm well ahead in the healing process). He has cleared me to drive and begin cardio rehab. Yeah, life begins again!
My post - surgical experience has been very easy. I stopped all pain Med's after two weeks.
I did develop a little post-surgical afib on day two which was quickly addressed with medication. Aside from a minor stiffness and soreness at the incision site, particularly in the morning after sleep, I've had no noteable discomfort. I've taken care not to lift too much, so I've had no complications with my chest healing. Just a lot of quality sleep as I regain my energy! Last night my wife and I attended a Valentine's Day dinner party at a friends house and I danced with two friends without having any chest pains, though I did get a little winded... Life is good and getting better every day!!
