About Me (In My Own Words)
I was diagnosed with a bicuspid aortic valve/aortic stenosis when I was 10 years old, after a cardiac cath to confirm a heart murmur. I'm 52 now. I don't have an upcoming surgery (and I hope I'm not jinxing myself by joining this group) but I routinely read about valve replacement since I have been told from the time of my diagnosis that I would require valve replacement in my 40's. I am still diagnosed as mild and currently have no symptoms or restrictions on my activity. I've actually been a runner (back of the pack, not fast at all) for the past 3 years and have even run two half-marathons. I'm hoping that I never need a valve replacement, but in the event that I do, learning about others and their experiences and educating myself is something I can control.
