About Me (In My Own Words)
I had endocarditis. An infection of my heart valve. We're not sure how I got the infection but most likely it was from a recent dental surgery. I had to spend 55 days in Manatee Memorial Hospital in Florida. I had such bad infection and vegetation on my aortic heart valve. I was first hit with a valley of intravenous antibiotics via a PICC line directly to my heart. There was some concern because of the possibility of a pulmonary embolism. Luckily they were able to go ahead and give me a heart valve. I am very happy it is an on-x mechanical heart valve which allows my INR to stay between 1.5 and 2.0. A lot less chance of bleeding than other heart valves... being a larger guy at 302 lb it was a little bit more of a difficult surgery for the surgeons. I made out just fine and they really were surprised how quickly I bounced back..
I currently have on average a blood pressure of 110 over 70 and a pulse rate of 60. Never in my life has it been so good.
The funny thing is my partner and I both find the heart valve ticking to be soothing as we are going to sleep.
