About Me (In My Own Words)
Hello. I am 59 years old. I have had 2 aortic valve replacements. I was born with a bicuspid aortic valve. Following a bout of bacterial endocarditis (from dental work), I had my first replacement with a tissue valve in August 1981. Following a second bout of bacterial endocarditis (again from dental!!) I had a mechanical aortic valve implanted in November 1988. I am currently in good health, I ski, golf and lead a very active life. My mechanical valve is functioning well, but I do have now aortic stenosis and will eventually have to have another aortic valve replacement.
