About Me (In My Own Words)
I was diagnosed in 2012 when bacteria vegetated in my aortic valve. Since then I have been under the care of a Cardiologist. After my eco in April, my Doctor introduced a discussion about aortic valve replacement surgery. I had another eco last week. It didn’t change much from the one in April, but today the Anesthesiologist postponed my Colonoscopy because of risk to my heart. My next appointment with my Cardiologist is October 2nd. I read Adam’s book so I feel a little better prepared to discuss surgery with him. I have selected a couple of Surgeons in Colorado to discuss my case. Since I grew up in Northeast Ohio, my wife wants me to consider having surgery at the Cleveland Clinic. We have family in the area. My thought is to get an opinion locally, and a second from the Cleveland Clinic. Since I am 68 years young and in good health, with longevity in my family, it appears an artificial valve may be in order, but I am not fond of the possibility of being on blood thinners for the rest of my life. Would appreciate any thoughts.
