About Me (In My Own Words)
On January 14 2010, I went to the Dr. with pnemonia, they sent me for chest exrays. The xray tech did not like the look of my xrays and took more pics. and asked me about my work and was I ever exposed to asbestos. There was a shadow in the center of my chest xray.
Then my Dr. ordered a C/T scan. Two days later I was at the docotrs office, and was expecting to hear I had lung cancer but was told I had an aortic anurism of 5.5 cm and was to immediatly discontinue work and see a heart surgon. Within five days I was at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester N.Y. talking to Dr. Knight, the heart doctor. He schedualed me for angio gram. The angio showed absolutly no blockage but that the aortic valve was leaking and pushing blood into the outer walls of the aorta and caused the anurism. I was then schedualed for surgery on Feb. 23rd.
The surgery went very well. They removed the anurism, replaced the aorta, and replaced the valve with a pig valve. What was supose to take 5 hrs. onlt took 3. The dr. said it was text book perfect.
I then spent about 12 hrs in the ICU. Got up and walked to the heart recovery unit. There I stayed for three days and then went home.
I feel great. The 10 in.incission is a little itchy right now but healing nicely.
I will go back next week for my three week check up with the surgen.
I am up to walking about one mile a day.
My wife and I never at any time had a why us moment. This is not to say we were not scared, we were very scared. But our main thought was lets get in there and get this fixed and get on to recovery. Summer is coming and we want to enjoy being out again and in the sun and camping.
We have wonderful support of our children and thier familys as well as our extended families, and employees.
We feel God has been very good to us, and has given us a second chance. We have had the great honor of belonging to a great church family that belives in the power of prayer.
We will forever be greatful to God the almighty healer, and wonderful skilled hands of my surgeon.
