About Me (In My Own Words)
At 48 I experienced Sudden Death. My sudden cardiac arrest and successful resuscitation after some minutes left me in a coma for 10 days. This itself is a emotional story but i have had a few years to deal with that. It did leave me with mitral valve prolapse, ventricular fibrillation and lots of pvc (extra heartbeats). To say the least I have had many cardiology appointments and time to research these problems. The prolapse was not a problem and my echo in early 2017 showed around 10 years before valve surgery would be needed. Also 2017 my doctor left us and I was put on a list for needing a new primary doctor which I got March 2018. I had many complaints like losing my breath with no physical exercise causing it and chest pain. My new doctor called me back after labs and explained I had rare problem called Hyperparathyroidism and also needed to be seen for an echo. Hyper... causes high calcium levels in blood. Since your body makes calcium to aid bodily repairs to bones, cuts etc my high calcium went to work on my prolasped heart which showed in the echo to be severe regurgitation. Long story short I went in to surgery Aug.30 to remove the para glands from my thyroids that surgery went smooth as well as the recovery and I am now scheduled for surgery Oct.9 for mitral valve repair and hopefully not valve replacement. I hope to hear from some people my age 51 or so on how this recovery will go. Every Halloween except the one where I was in a coma we pass out about 250 hot dogs and lots of candy to our neighborhood and want to feel positive it can happen this year too.
