About Me (In My Own Words)
I found out a couple of weeks ago that I have mild to moderate mitral valve regurgitation. I hadn't been feeling well for months but couldn't put my hand on what doctor to see or how to explain the problems. I was having trouble breathing, dizziness, discomfort in my chest, pain in my left arm, full-body muscle cramps, headaches, high-blood pressure, nausea and vomiting, extreme fatigue, intermittent violent coughing attacks at night that would sometimes bring up fluid that tasted like water, and a cough. My journey was jolt-started with a trip to the ER due to being so dizzy and disoriented I couldn't stand or walk. I was diagnosed with merely high blood pressure. It was 189/118 that night. I followed up with my internist(who is currently treating me) and have gone through several tests: blood work, EKGs, EEG, CT scan of head, urinalysis, echocardiogram, and a chemical stress test. All my doctor has told me is that I have high blood pressure, angina, dyspnea, dizziness, sleep apnea, and mild to moderate mitral valve regurgitation. I have been advised to change my diet, no salt, limit fluid intake, lose weight, start water exercise to strengthen heart and lungs, and then we'll go from there. And now I'm here for support and education.
