About Me (In My Own Words)
I was diagnosed with aortic regurgitation and an aortic aneurysm in 2009, it wasn't bad enough for repair so it was just wait and see until it was bad enough. In 2012 it was bad enough so they did a replacement, I had a horse valve (yes a horse) replacement, surgery went well recovery was good and so on I went with my life. Now it is 2018 I have been diagnosed with Giant Cell Atrteritis (GCA), which attacks the aorta, and lo and behold my valve is failing and now I'm going to have another valve replacement. They want to get the autoimmune condition under control first. What makes me mad is the first valve replacement was more than likely due to GCA but no one wanted to track down why my valve was bad, I was told it was probably congenital. Oh well I'm hoping to have a transcatheter valve replacement this time as we found out from the last replacement I am a bleeder and got to spend an extra day in ICU due to my blood loss. So now I'm on 6 month echocardiogram and wait and see. That's my story so far.
