About Me (In My Own Words)
In 1993, I was having problems breathing and coughing quite a bit. Went to my doctor and he put me on cough medicine and said it was just a chest cold. My cough subsided briefly but still had a tough time going short distances. A year and a half later I had was referred to a pulmonologist and he had done many tests. I was diagnosed with bronchitis, asthma, and it was finally found that I had Mitral Regurgitation. He decided to just monitor me and see what happened but also sent me to see a surgeon for his opinion. He suggested the surgery because he noticed that the valve had gone into stenosis. A few months later, while at home watching TV, my heart started beating so fast I thought it was going to come out of my chest. My husband got me to the ER and my heart rate was over 300. I was in SVT. The gave me a shot that made me almost jump off the table because it stopped my heart so quickly and I took a fast breath. The heart surgeon got those notes and decided it was time for the surgery. Everything went well and I was out within 5 days. New shiny Platinum and plastic valve inside me. A little disappointed because I wouldn't set of the alarms at the airports. š I was told in about 15 years it would need to be replaced and that I would have to be on Coumadin for the rest of my life. In October of that same year, my Coumadin levels were not at the correct levels and it caused me to have a blood clot, stroke and a seizure. Well God has been with me and I have not had to have it replaced, have had complex partials seizures ever since and just recently went through breast cancer. I am Blessed that I am still kicking. I know God has been with me. He gave my heart surgeon the ability to fix me finally and the pulmonologist to finally realize what was wrong. Sorry for the lengthy story but wanted share and let everyone know that you can survive no matter what hits you.
