About Me (In My Own Words)
I have known of my heart murmur since childhood, however, was not told of the mitrol valve prolapse until I was in my early 20's. At that point I was put on Inderol, a beta blocker, it made my heart rate slower and the beat softer. Six months ago my doc informed the condition had gone from mild to moderate severe. He said it is at the point to get it fixed before I become too symptomatic. I saw a surgeon at John Hopkins in Maryland who agreed it was the time to think surgery. Since then I have had the TEE test and say a surgeon here in orlando. One says going through the ribs is the way to go and the other recommends the mini 4 inch breast bone cut. I have been told the ribs are much more painful the first few days but then the recovery takes off and you are back much sooner. I am so confused, I am thinking of seeking an opinion from the Cleveland Clinic. I have read Adam's book which is wonderful. However it didn't address patients who chose the side over the breastbone. Anyone have any advice it would be greatly
appreciated.
