About Me (In My Own Words)
Well were do I start.... I’ve had a Bicuspid aortic valve which has been followed regularly. My echo in Sept. 2019 had shown more changes and it was time for surgery under the advise of my cardiologist, Dr. Anne Williams, I need my valve replaced. First I needed a cath done to check for blockages. Monday 18 Nov. 2019, I had a Cardiac cath done, no blockages which was great!!! At the same time had my consult with Dr. D. Lodge, Cardiac surgeon, I will have my surgery within the next few months, I had a follow up appointment with the surgeon to discuss which valve is best for me... mechanical heart valve vs. tissue heart valve January 2020. I decided to go with Edwards Inspiron Valve after much research by myself and my husband, I felt this was best for me.
Then COVID happened and life was on hold for the world.... but my brain didn’t stop thinking about surgery.
COVID in my province improved summer 2020, I got a call on 18 Aug. for surgery 21 Aug. at least I didn’t have to many days to dwell on it. Waiting to go into the OR was the longest day waiting for me. One night in CVICU, two nights in the cardiac special care unit the discharged home on Tuesday, 25 Aug. to recover.
My wonderful daughter and husband were great supports for me at home while I recovered. Few minor issues during recovery but overall looking back on it I feel my recovery went well. I am very grateful for my cardiologist Dr. Anne Williams and my cardiac surgeon Dr. Daniel Lodge. Their knowledge, relaxing professional manner was so welcoming during one of the most stressful times of my life.
