About Me (In My Own Words)
15+ years ago my family physician diagnosed a heart condition confirmed by the cardiologist as a genetic bicuspid aortic valve, which at the time was gently regurgitating blood back into the heart chamber: Biennial checkups and then pre-Covid, yearly checkups then whenever checkups. Like many if not most of you I was well aware that eventually I would require the valve replaced. Well, eventually is now. I am 67yo and last year the valve regurgitation was complicated by arrhythmia which thankfully went away with some pretty strong drugs. However, my aortic valve is tired and stenosis has set in etc etc and I am now waiting for the 5 day countdown call for valve replacement surgery. Within a few weeks, my surgeon will do the ROSS procedure, of which he is expert. I have read all the material from the heart institute but it is pretty bland. I am basically a pretty optimistic person and yet I think I am underestimating the recovery … the documentation projects a 6-8week back to normal timeline. Wouldn’t that be delightful?
