About Me (In My Own Words)
I had moderately severe mitral regurgitation in 2021 and was given a choice of open heart surgery, the gold standard, on an 85 year old or a Mitraclip. I chose the Mitraclip because I was nervous about stopping the heart on someone that old. I am happy with the surgery by Dr. Press. My understanding is that the Mitraclip does not eliminate the regurgitation but it lessens and stabilizes it. Today, I walk a brisk mile 7 days a week and I go to the gym 5 days a week, visiting 12 exercise stations None of this produces any pain or distress. None of the 87 year old people I know can do this so I consider this a success. I would like a guesstimate of 5 or 10 years from now if I make it that far ( my father died at the age of 100). What is todays thinking on the long term viablilty of the Mitraclip?
