About Me (In My Own Words)
Hello everyone sorry English is not my first language.
I have marfan syndrome and due to that my Aneurysm grew to 4.8. it was normal when we checked it in 2012. But over the last few years it had grown rapidly. With marfan patients they don't wait till it gets to 5 and instead do surgery after 4.5.
The surgeon who did the surgery was highly recommended and he did an excellent job in my opinion. Since than my wound has healed and I don't have any pain at the incision or left side.
My issue is I have pain in the right right upper chest, under armpit, shoulder, neck and upper right back. They did blood work, ultrasound, CT scan and x-ray and according to both the cardiologist and the surgeon everything is perfectly normal on all scans and tests
But this pain is real too. I just started my cardiac rehab last week. Even now when laying flat it hurts, moving on the bed and changing sides hurt
When I was discharged from the hospital they told me that in 4-6 weeks most of the pain should go away and whatever is left behind will go over after 6-8 weeks. I am in my 8th week.
But when I spoke with some patients who had similar surgeries to mine they told me to expect the full recovery to be in more of a 3 to 6 month range and up up to a year and while they were going through the recovery they also had pains and aches
So TBH this has taken a huge mental toll on me. I am 37 years old and have 3 kids and oldest being 5 years. Part of me keeps wondering if there's anything wrong with the surgery or will I have to live with this pain for rest of my life I am just confused as to what to believe
Because what they told me in the hospital recovery wise and what I'm going through are two different things
So if someone can shed any more light on this subject to ease my mind would greatly appreciate it. My surgeon also told me that younger patients tend to struggle more with pain simply because their nerves are much younger and more sensitive
Thank you. Hope to hear back from some people who had the similar surgery to mine and their experience with recovery. I had mechanical valve replacement
Thank you
