About Me (In My Own Words)
It's been almost three months since my surgery. I had my aortic valve replaced. I chose a mechanical valve. It was the ON-X valve. The sugery was done at Robert Wood Johnson Hosital in New Brunswick, NJ. The surgeon was Dr. Peter Sholtz.
I was up and walking the day after surgery. I was walking flights of stairs ( with the Physical therapist) by day 3. My hospital stay was uneventful. While in the hospital I was Diabetic but ths sugar went back to normal by day 6. I had spiked a fever so I was kept in the hospital for an extra day. I slept in a chair the first two nights at home. The third night I was in my own bed. I went back to work at two months. The warfaran is no big deal. I even shave with a regular razor.
A word about the On-x valve. With this valve your IR level only needs to be between a 2-3. I have to say I did agonize over getting a mechanical valve and I can now say I am glad I chose it. As for the surgery and hospital stay, the hardest part was getting the breathing tube taken out.
