About Me (In My Own Words)
I was diagnosed about 22 years ago with Aortic Regurgitation. I had no symptoms but it was picked up by a physician when listening to my heart with his stethoscope. It was classified as moderate to severe but my cardiologist continued to monitor my condition as I was asymptomatic and did quite well on the treadmill test.I thought I might be able to get away with it without the op. However, my Mitral valve is regurgitating. One leaflet has prolapsed and the other has at least one ruptured Chordae. It has gone from severity 1/4at the start of 2016 to Severity 4/4 at the end of the year. My cardiologist and Heart surgeon indicate that I need the operation soon so as to avoid any further deterioration. I still have no symptoms and perform very well on stress tests.I exercise vigorously without a problem. However my cardiologist suggests that I don't wait for symptoms otherwise I could do further damage and may not come back to the level I am at now. So even though I feel fit and healthy I will be having the operation next week.
