About Me (In My Own Words)
I have a congenital bicuspid aortic valve. The associated murmur has been present most of my life. My life has been fairly active until recently. I started having episodes of tachycardia four years ago. One night in April, 2005 I woke from a sound sleep drenched in sweat with a pulse of 170 bpm. I had the good fortune of meeting Dr. Stephen Morrison who has been my cardiologist since. I received a cardiac ablation in 2008 which eliminated my tachycardia but I noticed I was getting shortness of breath during walks.
After undergoing numerous tests we determined my valve was severly calcified and it was time to replace it. My ascending aorta is dialated and a section of it will be replaced as well.
I am scheduled to have surgery on December 15th. This will be a wonderful Christmas present.
