About Me (In My Own Words)
I had mitral valve endocarditis, which means a bacterial infection (called a vegetation) grew on my heart valve. Over time, pieces of the vegetation broke off and became embolisms, causing a series of transient ischemic attacks (TIAs), which are sometimes called mini strokes. I had open heart surgery to remove the bacterial infection and repair a hole that it caused in my valve.
I've had a few setbacks since surgery, but I'm improving every week. I look forward to biking with my kids and traveling with them to Mesa Verde National Park this summer.
