About Me (In My Own Words)
Hi everyone,
My name is Mark Webb and I'm a fit 49 year old who stays very active through mountain biking, trail running and weight training.
In 2014 I was diagnosed with mitral valve prolapse with severe regurgitation. My family GP heard a heart murmur during a drivers license examination. The decision made by my specialist was to monitor me due to having no real symptoms at the time. In the spring of 2017 I ran up a hill with a friend during a hike. I ended up in emergency with bad atrial fibrillation for 6 hours. Had a visit in Feb. 2018 with my surgeon Dr. Richard Cook in Vancouver, BC. and we decided to operate and attempt to repair my mitral valve through a minimally invasive procedure. My surgery took place on Sept. 7 2018 and it was very successful and the technique used was ring annuloplasty. I can't say enough about the surgical team and the nurses in the cardiac ICU. My only issue to date is that I'm presently in atrial fibrillation from my surgery. Its hindering my recovery, I get winded easy and its uncomfortable.
On October 18th I'm scheduled to go in for electrical cardioversion to try and shock my heart back into normal rhythm.
I'll keep you posted!
