About Me (In My Own Words)
I have what they call a ‘functional aortic valve’ with moderate regurgitation of 3/4. I am 65 and this has been a long standing condition - probably from birth. I am asymptomatic and my heart continues to compensate with the volume overload. My cardiologist says I am a good second hand car but I’m slowly heading towards a cliff where a new valve will likely be required. I have annual echos to monitor progression of the leak and to assess heart function. I guess I’m in the ‘watchful waiting’ category and I try to just keep on living. This is a fantastic site and it reassures me that when the inevitable time comes I can lean on the advice and support of this community.
