About Me (In My Own Words)
Started with a preop physical for minor Gyn surgery & failed my EKG as had AFIB with heart rate @ 136, no chest pain or Shortness of breath , had mainly fatigue. Got lab & was immediately placed on Eliquis 5mg one twice a day & Metoprolol ER one twice a day, set up to see cardiologist & had echo of heart , PET of heart & further lans & chest x-ray done & was recommended for seeing a cardiothoracic surgeon for mitral valve replacement as having moderate to severe regurgitation from mitral valve. Had history of having rheumatic fever @ age 16 due to recurring sore throats ? Strep throat without always seen or treated with antibiotics for strep. After having P.E. Test that showed my regurgitation was worse I picked the U of M for my surgery in Minneapolis. After seeing the cardiothoracic surgeon he felt I could have mitral valve repair as the mitral valve was working it was the flap wasn’t always closing completely therefore the repair should take care of that as well as a Maze procedure to correct the AFIB. I had the surgery 11/30/2023 & did fairly well. AFib went away for short time & came back . Still have fatigue & had echo 04/2024 & 12/2024 & showed regurgitation back from mitral valve . My cardiologist placed me on injectable Cholesterol
Med Leqvio 01/25 as I have terrible muscle spasms & tightens up fingers ,toes & calves cramp & can’t stand the pain when I try oral cholesterol meds then 04/ 2025 had another echo & will see my cardiologist in July 2025 but have concerns about having regurgitation come back in 2023 so soon after surgery. Is this normal? Are there any options or procedures that have been recommended or used that are effective for this? Or what are my options if any?
