About Me (In My Own Words)
Eight-years ago I was diagnosed with Aortic Stenosis. At the time I was told I would need a valve replacement within ten years. ~ I just had a new bovine valve installed this past June, 2012! I was told it should last for 20 years.
My surgery was performed by Dr. Keith Korver, Santa Rosa, CA. I would highly recommend him. In years past, he assisted under Dr. Marchbanks (Now deceased.). Both doctors are/were wonderful surgeons. Dr. Korver is rated at five-stars. I believe he did a great job for me and I'm totally pleased after receiving a shining report from my first ecco.
In all, I will have to say my stay at Sutter Hospital, Santa Rosa was pleasant. The staff was very, very skilled. Excellent care there, to be sure.
I did have a lot of right-breast pain after my surgery. I don't know why, but was told it was probably from the retractors. I was in ICU three-days, and released to the telemetry unit on my fourth-day. My total hospital stay was six-days. I did have a rehab stay of eight-days and highly recommend such care, especially if you are alone and have no one at home to serve as caregiver. I was totally fine to care for myself after the allotted recooperative time in rehab.
I am presently in a cardio-rehab class three-times a week. The class is an hour in duration and I highly suggest such commitment in order to assist in your healing process.
I truly suffer no post-op depression. I keep very, very busy (as my body allows!) and highly suggest scheduling your each and every day. (Allow for naptime!).
I am totally pleased with the outcome of my surgery and look forward to each day with a new and sunny outlook!
Thanks, Adam, for your website! Your book was also a boon. I purchased it after my surgery and was so happy to read the post op-portion. It was a great help!
Keep on tickin'! ~ Linda
