About Me (In My Own Words)
This is a 91 yrs. old very petite female diagnosed with severe ar & mitral regurg. She was asymptomatic for a few years. The symptoms began abt 2 months ago. She started breathing heavily after short periods of walking. Both feet and legs would swelled up really bad. She was becoming quite restless as she had difficulty sleeping because of the tightness/pressure when lying down. We are presently seeking the advice of a number of cardiologists and surgeons. If there is anyone out there who is over 90 yrs. old and has/will have AVR, we will like to hear from you and your experiences. The doctors tell us that AVR is her only solution. There is also a good possibility that there is also coronary artery disease however no angiogram has been done as yet. There is the question of whether she should have surgery at this age. If so, open heart vs. TAVI. As a caregiver, it is very difficult to help her fully understand what is going on and for her and the family to make the best and right decision. Thank you for reading this story and would appreciate any responses.
