About Me (In My Own Words)
Found I had a bicuspid valve, which they deemed I was born with, during a routine visit to my gp when he heard a very loud heart murmur. I had to choose a tissue (bovine) valve due to having ITP (low platelets) and could not be on blood thinners just in case the ITP returns in the future. During the open heart surgery the surgeon also did a patch to the non-coronary sinus. I had a pacemaker in 10/5/2021 which was actually due to the calcification of my valve and signal not making through the calcification. I had a ct last Friday to just check the repair to the coronary sinus and they noted that I now have abnormal septal motion, concentric left ventricular hypertrophy and a smooth hypoattenuating leaflet thickening of the left bioprosthetic leaflet with mild restriction of leaflet motion. I am concerned that perhaps this valve is failing, and have reached out to the surgeon and my cardiologist at Mayo, however they have 4 days to respond. From what I understand a small percentage of these valves do fail. I'm also concerned about the abnormal septal motion which I'm only guessing started after the open heart surgery. If the valve is failing, do they wait till it gets much worse before replacing, if this one is failing, would using another bovine valve fail as well? Any insight or guidance would be much appreciated.
