About Me (In My Own Words)
I have wanted to join in since I came across Adams heart-valve-surgery.com 2017!
Thank you Adam for your story, this site all of your information and all of the wonderful people to tell their stories has been awesome!
I find myself always coming back to check up on people and see what is new in the heart surgery developments! It is all fascinating to me and amazing what these heart surgeons can do for us!
Thank you for all you do!!
My journey started with a heart murmur in late 2016. I was monitored with a echocardiogram once a year. It started at moderate severe and by the end of 2018 it went to severe with really no noticeable symptoms except being tiered. Being a flight attendant and doing international trips it just seemed a normal thing, always trying to catch up on sleep!
So from there went ahead and had a couple interviews with heart surgeons. This is when I was told that it was time to think about either a repair if possible or valve replacement.
I sure read up on allot of stories and it all was so helpful in preparing me and educating me on this journey!
I went with Dr Ryan at Swedish heart institute in Seattle Washington and what a great heart surgeon!
He was able to do a mitral valve repair! Since I had severe allergic reaction to nickel and if the repair didn't work I was not going to be able to do the tissue replacement and would have had a mechanical valve put in. So thankful for repair! Dr. Ryan did put in strum platting but not sure the brand name and that was for nickel allergy.
So far so good! Had a echo in Aug. 2019 and all is looking good. Get checked again in March 2020.
Did cardio rehab. Loved it and so good for you! Also did three months of PT to get back to work and back to doing yoga. I have been working now since. Sept. Still think I can overdue on lifting, sternum still a little sensitive.
Thank you to all of you putting your journeys out there to share, it really is a blessing to help others!
I do have a question for you all?
Anyone have allergy to nickel and not able to do tissue valve because the metal in them contains nickel?
Best wishes and blessings,
Happy Thanksgiving to you all!
