About Me (In My Own Words)
I had a heart attack and needed a triple bypass done. My surgeon and cardiologist identified an additional issue with my aortic valve not functioning as it should. By itself, this issue really didn't require immediate surgery. Dr. Litke said if he did the bypasses the valve would probably require replacement within 5 to 10 years, so he recommended replacing it when he had me opened up. He installed a bovine valve at that time. I asked him how long it would last, and he said no way to tell for sure, but probably in the range of 15 to 20 years, and if it needed replacing, it would be done using a catheter rather than cracking my chest again.
