About Me (In My Own Words)
Diagnosed first in 2010, Veteran's Hospital in Ann Arbor recommends surgery 2013. Age, 62, Also some dead heart tissue, mitral valve thickening. No appointment for surgery yet. Scared to death after 27 years of no health care, then Obama opened up health care for veterans. Many questions, like what about discomfort from catheter insertions, wondering if I will become constipated, too much light in room, my eyes are weak and painful. Should I take earplugs? Will I be able to sleep at home in a chair? I don't have a bed! I wonder if the pain will be controllable, if the doctor will be willing to answer questions. So far, not one has given me a prognosis, so I feel stuck in a mystery. I wonder if I will die prior to being able to survive surgery. I wonder if I will be able to lose weight and work out, get my tone back. I haven't been able to raise my heart rate for a long time. Vertigo, scintillating scotoma, high cholesterol, despite dietary efforts, vegetables every day, oatmeal.
