About Me (In My Own Words)
My name is Joseph Schaffer. I’m 56 years old and just had the Ross Procedure on June 15, 2021 I also had the Maze Procedure at the same time. 3 years ago I had an Aortic Graft on my Ascending Aorta and a Maze too, and actually they threw in a pacemaker. I had a bicuspid aortic valve, that was “cleaned up” back then.
My cardiologist is Ahmed Mizyed and my surgeon is Andrew Pruitt and they work out of Michigan Heart at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital in Ypsilanti, Michigan.
I had a cpap machine after my first heart surgery but stopped using it because I always felt claustrophobic and stopped using the machine about four months.
