About Me (In My Own Words)
For a long time I've tired easily. In the late '90's I was diagnosed with sleep apnea. This seemed to be the answer to my problem. I felt much better once on CPAP. In the last few years though It started to get worse. Besides being tired I now had reduced ability to concentrate, slow memory recall, slow wound healing, jumpy legs and painful toes. My chest did feel "heavy" at times, especially after strenuous activity. "I'm just out of shape" I told myself. After another sleep study the Dr told me that everything was working fine, I was getting the air and sleep that I needed. What now?
During a physical with my GP he told me that I had a heart murmour. He scheduled an echocaridogram which showed the servere aortic senosis. Valve opening of 0.8 v. 2.0. That was a shock but in hindsight running with a 60% "restrictor plate" made sense to me, that was the "activity ceiling" that I had been living with for decades.
My surgery is scheduled with Dr. Balkhy at the Wisconsin Heart Hospital on October 10, 2011. Starting to feel a little anxious at times. I'm tying for the minimally invasive type of surgery, I hope this works out. I'm getting more concerned as the date gets closer.
