About Me (In My Own Words)
I was diagnosed in January 2023 with severe Rheumatic Mitral Valve Stenosis and moderate regurgitation. I had a mechanical valve replacement on March 23, 2023.
I am 46 years old, with three wonderful kids who are in their 20’s. I have an amazing husband, and a tremendous support team…I really thought I would be almost back to normal by now, but so far from it. Physically, I am doing pretty well..my blood pressure stays pretty low so I attribute that to my tiredness…but it’s the mental stuff that has me all out of sorts. I have always been the fun, nice sister..and since my surgery I want to cry or throat punch someone..not much middle ground either..
While I am so thankful they caught my disease when they did, I can’t help but wonder if the old me died when they stopped my heart?? I don’t even recognize the person that I am anymore.
