About Me (In My Own Words)
On 26 Oct 2023, I was admitted to Mount Sinai Hospital in Manhattan for bypass surgery as a result of a balloon angioplasty scheduled with the utmost urgency by Dr. Rama Manchikalapudi, performed by Dr. Brian Strizik, that found several blockages that stents would not resolve. As a result, open-heart surgery was scheduled immediately. Dr. Strizik contacted Dr. Robin Varghese to expedite surgery that would save my life.
Once I was admitted to Mount Sinai Hospital, I was introduced to the support Team that would take care of me pre- and post-op throughout my stay at the hospital. Every step of my entire stay was explained in detail with no rush to get the explanation out of the way.
Dr. Varghese informed me that I had high percentages of blockage in three cardiac arteries, one at 100%. He accompanied his explanation with a comprehensive illustration of the heart’s circulatory system and where my blockages were situated. Dr. Varghese calmly explained his approach to performing the bypasses, as well as replacing a calcified aortic valve with root enlargement. His calm demeanor gave me high confidence in his ability and allayed any fear of the upcoming procedure and cardiac ICU recovery. I knew I was in excellent hands and Dr. Varghese would be improving my quality of life and saving me from certain doom.
The surgery was a success and Dr. Varghese informed my wife and I that I have a strong heart. The incision over my sternum is healing nicely and comfortably and is slowly disappearing, soon to be a minor vestige of a mad dash to ensure I can continue my life with my family and friends. November 26 marked the one-month anniversary of my surgery and I no longer have chest pains walking 50 steps nor climbing steps. My heart rate has come down ten beats per minute and I’m no longer getting tired performing simple daily exercises and duties.
I was diagnosed with major blockage prior to admittance and discharged from the hospital stronger and able to look forward to a more rewarding and healthier life. Thank you Dr. Varghese – and your dedicated, kindhearted, knowledgeable, thoughtful and professional Team – for bringing together everything required to save my life. I’m ecstatically looking forward to living my life in a way I could never think possible!
Thank you to all!
