About Me (In My Own Words)
At age 44 I was diagnosed with aortic stenosis. At 46 I had AVR; Edwards Carpeniter TFX 3000. Everything went fine, "textbook" recovery. Flash forward to September 2016. My peak gradient hits 60 mmHg cardiologist suggests we do another echo in March 2017, peak drops to 55mmHg however the regular gradient is 39. 40 is when surgery is recommended. Echo indicates valve has pannus and is failing.
I'm a very active person, skiing, mountain biking, backpacking, etc.
I have been eyeing the ON-X valve since 2006. Now that FDA approval was granted for lower INR I was leaning towards this valve. Visited with surgeon. he says if I want to continue my "extreme" lifestyle I should get another tissue valve, The Edwards Intuity NON TAVR valve.
I really want to keep my current lifestyle. I will turn 56 just after surgery, sometime between mid June to mid July. Not sure what to do as I know a tissue valve means another reop is in my future. Surgeon will put in a larger tissue valve to accommodate future TAVR.
