About Me (In My Own Words)
I was born in Sacramento California. At 3 days old I had my first open heart surgery at Sutter Memorial Hospital. I was diagnosed with Pulmonary Valve Stenosis. During this surgery the surgeon repaired my valve. It was 1976.
Fast forward to 1988, I was 12 years old, my parents switched insurance which meant a new cardiologist. Dr. Gregory Janos informed us that I would have to have open heart surgery again within 6 months, but wanted to try a balloon catheter first...it failed. June 1988, I had my 2nd Pulmonary Valve reconstruction, my surgeon was Dr. McDermott, it was also at Sutter Memorial. September 1988, my youngest brother was born, 2 days old, they found he also had Pulmonary Valve Stenosis. My parents immediately called Dr. Janos & Dr. McDermott, they obviously performed his surgery.
In the past few years, I had noticed that I just didn't feel good and while at work my legs/ankles were swelling. I was swelling so much that everyone in my office noticed. I decided to make an appointment with a new cardiologist. After the echocardiogram and ultrasound, I knew. I could hear the difference.
This past January I had Pulmonary Valve Replacement & Tricuspid Valve Reconstruction. I was at Oklahoma University Hospital (Sooner Boomer!). My cardiologist is Sabrina Phillips, she is a congenital defect specialist. My surgeons were Harold Burkhart & Jess Thompson.
