Bicuspid aortic valve diagnosed 15 years ago. Followed regularly and aortic stenosis progressed to severe. Developed symptoms of shortness of breath and increased chest pain in fall of 2024 and replacement of valve recommended. Was felt to be good candidate for TAVR or surgical replacement. I made the decision for surgical replacement because there did not seem to be enough long-term data on TAVR and bicuspid valves. The surgical procedure was successful and I tolerated it quite well. I am now 12 days post-operative. Was discharged 5 days after surgery.
