About Me (In My Own Words)
I am 57 years old, married for 24 years, a little over weight and moderately active, don’t drink or smoke. I have Asthma and lungs capacity at 73% (another story, but no change in 20 years) and moderate high blood pressure (with meds its 133/70). Overall life is good and low stress. We are empty nesters with two great kids. I work full time at an office job.
Starting in the Fall of 2017 after complaining to my GP for a few months that I though my breathing (Asthma) was getting worse (noticed it for a few years but just thought it was getting old, out of shape and my asthma getting worse) , he referred me for allergy testing (Not sure why). I meet with the Allergy specialist in January 2018 and she determined that I should go to a lung specialist. The lung specialist wanted to send me for CAT scan on my lungs but while looking at an old chest X-ray noticed a comment that said possible enlarged heart (first time my heart health was ever question). This note was missed by my GP. So she sent me for echocardiogram to rule out any heart issues.
The echocardiogram came back that the heart was find, but there was possible Aortic valve leakage. I was booked for a Transesophageal Echocardiography (July 10th) which report a mild to severe leakage (closer to severe) in the Aorta valve. I have now been referred to Cardiologist. My First appointment is not until September 13, which will start with a treadmill stress test.
The Cardiologist that did the TEE said that it would be better to take care of the this sooner than later since there is nothing else major that is wrong with me. We have a lot of questions and too much time to surf the net. I’ve been told not to over work my heart until we talk to the Cardiologist , but we don’t know what over working means. I wear a Fitbit and am amazed how much my heart rate goes up and down with little effort. Sitting at my desk my heart beat is high 80’s to low 90’s. and steady flat walk is around 110-115 and good hill I can peak at 144. The slowest my heart gets is while sleeping and that is around 50-60 ppm.
Now we wait.
