About Me (In My Own Words)
I have familial heterozygous hyperlipidemia, mitral valve regurgitation and aortic stenosis. I am followed at Penn Med (Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania) and Pennsylvania Hospital (part of Penn Med) in Philadelphia, PA. I have periodic echocardiograms and carotid ultrasounds plus I will most likely have a nuclear stress test in the near future. My aortic and mitral valve situations have stabilized. I have 60% plaque in two major arteries and 50% in another. I got apheresis done biweekly for 5 years, and have been having plasmapheresis for the past 7 years at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania as I cannot tolerate any of the cholesterol lowering meds. I see my cardiologist every 6 months.
