About Me (In My Own Words)
In 1995, I was diagnosed with atrial fibrillation and a subsequent echocardiogram showed that I had aortic regurgitation. My aortic valve had one damaged leaflet. About eight years later, I had my aortic valve replaced with a Saint Jude mechanical heart valve on July 21, 2003. At the time of my surgery, my three children were only age 3, 18 months, and four months old. I had a very good heart surgeon and a very competent cardiologist for 25 years. I have been able to function well ever since. I signed up for this website because of a story that was posted for Allen Stendahl, who in 2019 was 37 years post operative of a Saint Jude mechanical heart valve.
