About Me (In My Own Words)
On Jan 31, 2020 I had an AFIB episode. I ended up in the ER. I converted on my own after I was given meds. I was referred to a Heart Doctor who scheduled me for a Echo (sonogram). Then he wanted me to have a TEE. Then Covid hit. My TEE got put off 3 times. Finally I took a Covid test and had my TEE. I was shocked when I was diagnosed with Rheumatic Heart Valve Issues. What? I never had that? I asked my Mama. She said I never had that. I am 64. Back in the day when we got sick we hardly went to the doctor, so I could have had it. My doctor said I will have to have surgery to replace the valve within a year.
I just saw my heart doctor 9/28/2020. He wanted another sonogram. I got it this week. I don't have another appointment with him until November. I just checked my online medical report and he put in there for the office to call me to see me next week because my heart valve issue is worse. That is where I am now. Scared to death, but confident that whatever I have to have done that God will be with me. Sometimes having access to medical notes isn't a good thing. So I wait to get that phone call and to have that appointment to give me info I probably do not want to hear. My doctor did say that I would not be getting the less envasive surgery. My Dad had heart valve surgery where they cracked him open and I am terrified. If anyone has any good stories of a easy surgery, I would love to hear them.
I'll add that I have a twin sister. She has had AFIB for over 10 years that is treated with meds. She told her heart doctor about my heart valve issues. We assumed if I had Rheumatic Fever that she did too. They took a look at some test she had and she does not have a heart valve issue.
