About Me (In My Own Words)
So ..... myself and husband went for a 2 day visit in Ireland to visit his family the night before flying home which was Valentine's night was when it all happened
I NEVER forget it was 7.20pm and my husband went out the door he looked back at me and he looked "weird" as if he was choking I went over to him and he collapsed and helped him get in car but it was a struggle but I did he started what I thought he was having heart attack he went purple foaming at the mouth shaking eyes rolling and wet him self I drove to his mother's house by this time in the car John was out cold on my shoulder in passenger seat no response
I got him to his mother's house and rang for ambulance neighbours gotta difibulater on John but no response
The ambulance arrived and we drove to limmerick hospital they were doing tests after tests but new it was serious they had to transfer him to cork by ambulance 6 surgeons in the back we new ideas serious we followed behind in car they warned us John might not survive the journey we still didn't no wot was wrong
Arriving in cork myself and John's sister were called in a room and were asked to sign"dnr" form we couldn't John was then rushed off to theatre...9 hours later the surgeon walks in to the waiting room and explains exactly what John had type A thoracic aortic dissection basically his main artery to the heart erupted 3 weeks in icu on life support machine we wasn't sure if he would make it but we kept positive
The staff in cork icu were amazing John came round and finally woke up very sore very confused eventually John got moved to a ward and very slow progress then more problems John's chest collapsed more surgery back into icu eventually 3 and half months later after a mechanical valve fitted infections John was allowed to leave cork hospital we went back to his sister's in cork but all John wanted to do was get back to England he wasn't allowed to fly so we got the ferry home 7 months later John is still back and forth to hospitals in UK
Still in lots if pain but getting there very slowly lots of medication to take but we take EVERY day as it comes he survived and made it my advice STAY POSITIVE
