About Me (In My Own Words)
I had persistent atrial fib for ten years that could be treated by amiodorone and cardioversions until six months ago. During the six months my endurance started to diminish. I knew I needed ablation to stop the atrial fib and diminished capacities. Many forms of ablation were presented, but the catheter method was not recommended because of the persistence of atrial fib. I also periodically had clots in my left atrial appendage.
I was referred to Dr. Marc Gerdisch to discuss have a full maze procedure and clamping the left atrial appendage. I was informed that a full maze would be most effective if my heart were stopped with use of the heart - lung apparatus. Dr. Gerdisch took time to describe what would be done and answered all questions. With some trepidation I agreed to this procedure.
Dr. Gerdisch performed the operation with complete success. I was immediately out of atrial fib. The amount of pain during recovery was minimal. The incisions healed quickly. Immediately after the surgery I required a pacemaker but came into normal rate before discharge with no pacemaker required.
Dr. Gerdisch was wonderful in all respects throughout this process. I highly recommend him for this procedure.
