About Me (In My Own Words)
When I was 4 years old I was diagnosed with MVP, a commonly benign heart condition. As I grew older, the doctors kept on telling me that probably in my case it wasn't that benign, while I was growing so did my problem. Still I had faith that I would be part of the group in which this condition is not a big deal.
I was used to have my regular checkups every three to six months and the response would always be the same: "you have an impressive prolapse, but we can still have you under close observation since you have no symptoms". Little I knew that my fate was about to change!!! On November I had my regular cardiologist appointment and there it was, my worst fear came true... She said to me: "I don't like at all what I am hearing...". Then she started making some very uncomfortable phone calls to try to rush some tests. I was simply terrified!!!
Results came back, my "moderate MVP", was not moderate anymore, I have a severe MVP with severe regurgitation.. Immediately my world turned upside down, as I was about to move to Germany due to my husband's job, I also needed to plan for heart surgery.
On our extensive research, we flew to NY to see Dr. David Adams to confirm my results. He confirmed that I have a severe regurgitation and that the risks of doing nothing greatly surpasses that of having surgery. He was incredible! he spent quite some time explaining to me what I have without adding to me any more stress. He gave me the confidence that I need and he is going to perform my surgery on June 27th.
I am as scared as I have ever been, but hoping that a promising future awaits me after surgery...
