About Me (In My Own Words)
Well my story begins with me being born with a Heart Murmor. I am 60 years old, and have been asystemmatic through this whole process, before and after. On my last eco in Feb 8th 2022 it was discovered that my mitral valve was severely leaking and required more tests with a cath and TEE tests. Results were confirmed that my valve needed to be repaired. I did alot of research to see if I could get this done NON invasively, but I did not find one surgeon that would agree with my health condition, which is very good (KNOCK on WOOD) that a non invasive surgery would benefit me long term. So through a lot of prayer, and support from my family I decided to get the cage cracked and get the surgery. My surgery, was May 16, 2022. Recovery and the hospital stay were way better then expected. When I woke up after getting the snake out of my mouth, I was able to see my incision and the quality, and precision of the wound, I was expecting much worse. Like with most photos I have seen on this site, they use glue and no stitches. I am very happy with the result. Scabs took about 5 weeks to disappear. Rehab was better than expected as well. I was 5 days in the hospital, and was walking briskly on week 3 doing a 2 mile walk daily 6 days a week. Cardio rehab started in week 6, and I did 4 weeks 3 days a week. on my last day of rehab, I was able to jog 20 minutes at about 5.5 mile/hour pace. Currently I am 3 months out from surgery and am at 100%. I am playing 18 holes of golf, and will start my hockey league in mid September. Both my cardiologist and Surgeon said see you in 6 months. I know alot of people have had a tougher road than me, but I wanted to share a positive story as I very much appreciated those stories prior to my surgery. Good luck to anybody that is in the decision process, to me that was worse than going through any of the physical stuff. Cheers, Dan
