About Me (In My Own Words)
I found out recently that I needed my Aortic valve replaced when I couldn't get cardiac clearance for a short out-patient procedure that I was scheduled for. My cardiologist had been telling me for years that at some point in my life I would need heart valve surgery, but that I would probably be a grandparent before having to face that. What a shock at 44 years of age!
In addition to needing aortic valve replacement, my mitral valve may need repair and my right coronary artery needs bi pass. All the damage to my heart is a result of having something done in order to save my life... radiation therapy.
At the age of 18 I received radiation for treatment of Hodgkin 's disease and last year I had chemo and radiation for breast cancer. My aortic valve problem went from moderate/severe to severe within a year and a half.
And now here I am, counting down to surgery and ready to get it over with!
